FAQ

Questions people ask about MT4

Filter by topic — downloads, devices, login, and features. Straight answers, no fluff.

What is MT4?

MetaTrader 4 is MetaQuotes’ classic trading terminal — charts, analysis tools, orders, and MQL4 Expert Advisors. What you can trade depends on your broker.

Is MT4 free?

You can usually download the client for free. Live trading may still involve spreads, commissions, or other broker fees.

Can I use Chinese in MT4?

Yes. Most builds let you switch languages in settings, including Chinese. Exact options depend on the version you install.

MT4 or MT5 — which one?

MT4 has 9 timeframes, 30 indicators, and MQL4. MT5 adds more timeframes, order types, and testing with MQL5. Go with what your broker supports — and don’t mix up the download buttons on shared official pages.

What devices does it run on?

Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. Features can differ by platform — see the Download Center.

Where do I get the desktop version?

Use the Windows or macOS links. Make sure the product name says MetaTrader 4, not MT5.

Login failed — what should I check?

Double-check your network, account number, password, and MT4 server name. Still stuck? Contact your broker.

Can’t connect to the server?

Check your network, the server address, and whether your terminal is outdated. Some networks block trading servers — your broker’s support can help.

Can I run EAs on mobile?

Building and testing EAs is mainly a desktop thing. Mobile apps focus on quotes, charts, and orders.

Does MT4 guarantee profits?

No. MT4 is a tool for analysis and trading. Markets move, and leveraged trading can carry serious risk.
